How
to pack your laptop for shipping |
Your
Laptop although portable is still a fragile piece of electronic
equipment, even when it stops working for you. It is very
important to ensure that when you are sending your laptop
for repair that you pack it carefully to ensure that no harm
comes to it in transit from you to your repairer. With this
in mind we have outlined some simple steps that will help
ensure that your laptop reaches it’s destination in
one piece. Although your courier will handle you machine with
care accidents can happen. There are a few simple rules that
will help ensure that your laptop makes it ok.

Instructions You
will need, your carry case, some packing material (e.g. bubble
wrap), a strong box and wide packing tape.

If you
don’t have a box DON’T SHIP IT!
We cannot emphasise this enough unless your carry case is
a “Flight Case” (the kind bands use on tour, wait
until you have a box suitable to send your machine. Ask your
repairer can they supply you with a box (there may be a charge
for this service).
Take note of your machines serial no and call centre
reference or pick up reference. You would be amazed
how many people do not know what there machine is and when
you call the repairer it’s not enough to say “it’s
a grey one !” (True Story).
If your machine will still boot up – BACK
IT UP! Most repairers including manufacturers, will
not accept any responsibility for your data and remember,
when it’s gone it’s gone !
Remove the battery, cd’s, usb keys, sd cards
& cables. Make sure that your cd rom drive and screen
are securely closed. Removing your battery ensures
that your machine is not and will not power up for any reason
in transit, which could cause it to over heat.
Return your laptop to its carry case, wrap in bubble
wrap and then place in the box. Wrap the ac adaptor &
battery separately and place in the box as well, don’t
forget to include your contact details. Make sure that it’s
not too cramped in there but don’t let the machine rattle
around either (if you don’t have bubble wrap
then crumpled up news paper is a great filler). If you don’t
have a carry case than use bubble wrap to wrap up your machine
and make sure that you use enough to ensure that your machine
is adequately protected, again use crumpled up news paper
to make it a snug fit.
Tape up the box and make sure that the machine
or accessories do not rattle about.
Tape the delivery address and reference number
to the box, and its no harm to put your address on
it somewhere as well (use a small label for this as you don’t
want it getting mixed up with the destination address)

Hopefully if you use the above guidelines your
machine will be fine and arrive ok but we accept no responsibility
for the above advice. We will however say this……
if you don’t use the advice the chances are far greater
that YOUR MACHINE MAY GET DAMAGED ! |
